Learn How Jewelry Can Make Your Life Better

standard storage box for jewelry. Do you have something like this?

Club Creative Studio enjoys sharing creative knowledge that you can use or pass along. In today’s TNT (This-N-That) blog post, you can look no further than the jewelry box on your dresser for the answer to a better life.  Well…sort of. Here is a question: How can your jewelry make your life better?

At first glance of our jewelry hidden within the standard storage box designated the “jewelry box”, you may seem frustrated at disorganization.  Maybe your container is too small for your collection, maybe the dividing spaces are not adequate to separate or display the jewelry you own. Another problem with your storage may be your actual items you are holding on to.  Do you have lost or broken jewelry sections, tangled chains, or out of fashion creations?

It may seem difficult to appreciate knowing that life can be made better by simply displaying your jewelry in healthier ways. You can be quite innovative in how you do this. In this respect, your jewelry has a link to making your life better.  Your life can be more orderly and your possessions more valued if you have a means to care for the jewelry you own using proper storage. After all, was not this the thinking methodology of “Santa” who gifted you the pink ballerina musical box for your plastic necklace?

Did you own a wind up musical ballerina jewelry box?

Did you own a wind up musical ballerina jewelry box?

I really should practice what I am preaching here. I personally have a mixture of ways that I refer to as my “jewelry organization”.  Some of my fine gems are stored in their original boxes and placed in a safe.  Other jewelry items that I own are displayed on hooks, smaller elements are placed in a traditional jewelry box and yet other creations are organized in small, clear, stackable bins with handles that are easily ready to view when I have to travel, or relocate.

No matter if you store in a standard table top box, in free-standing legged armoires, in a closet organizer pouch, or on some type of rack, caring for your jewelry and having access to it easily is the key to experiencing storage happiness with your jewelry.

To properly store for in-home, short-term, I suggest using a hooked display rack, ladder-type or screen-hole system with holes for earrings, box or plate that is placed in a room where you have an adequate landing spot to return to again and again. Being able to quickly see and review your jewelry choices is important for the items that you wear most often. If you make a habit of returning and neatly replacing jewelry in the same spot your life will be better as you will not waste time finding what you need. Your treasures will not be lost and they will last longer from the tender loving care and respect. A great “go-to” spot will serve you well in jewelry organization.

There is a wonderful product I learned about from a home shopping show that seems to be every girl’s dream jewelry case. It was a rectangular box that opened up on one hinged side and attached to the back of any door.  It was framed out and had a mirror on the front.  How wonderful is that? Fun and function…I LOVE IT! This type of jewelry storage unit could be considered both temporary and permanent because of its size and depending on the location you place it.  It was designed with many specific compartments. The areas had distinct places for bracelets, rings, necklaces, earrings, even scarves and belts. It had a secure hanging device that was over-the-door, so no nails were required for its installation.

So, with these few helpful tips in mind, maybe you can make your life better by making a special place for your jewelry. Happy shopping and organizing.  Be sure to stop by the blog again for creative information you can learn and share. We’d love to hear your conventional and non-traditional methods for storing your jewelry because you never know who may need the suggestions and help.  Thank you.

Making Jewelry Stinks (sometimes)

20 Jul

It does, this idea does stink but, with artful results.

Today’s Club Creative Studio post is a special feature post that deals with a great idea that stems from what might seem as an unlikely place in jewelry-making, it is the location called your kitchen.   I love to discover a technique that is interesting and this one is so worth sharing.

Although we love for things to come out of our kitchen smelling wonderful, this is a kitchen/jewelry project that really stinks!  Consider yourself warned AND informed.  In this case, what stinks is also pretty cool.  If you are making jewelry and enjoy experimenting, this is something that you may be interested in trying, or at least it is nice to know.

People called “Foodies” are great fans of food.  If you are one that spends many hours in the kitchen creatively cooking, baking or eating, then you know how important that environment can be.  It can be a space of much discovery. And so today, you can combine the kitchen, food and jewelry making all in one project.

How could this be that all of those things can combine in an artful way?  Let me share a tip I came across that is helpful for those who like to experiment and find options to incorporate in their creative jewelry creations. Don’t be chicken (like me) try it and let me know about your results.  It’s and Egg-cellent idea.

Did you know that you can use a hard-boiled egg to create the look of patina on sterling silver wire findings? You’ll need a hard-boiled egg, sterling silver item, a zip-seal plastic bag. Here is what you do for the process:  After hard boiling your eggs while they are still hot, take your peeled hard-boiled eggs and slice them in half, placing in the air-tight bag.

The yolk is the primary source of sulfur and it is the yolk that will be reacting chemically to the sterling silver item you place in a bag.  For an average-sized single piece of jewelry, two eggs will be enough, but the larger the item, the more eggs you need. To oxidize multiple pieces of jewelry, you will need to add more eggs, and use a larger bag as well.

The aim of this project is to turn sterling silver items into items with an aged and patina-look.

Waiting for the oxidation process is next, the silver will bond with oxygen.  Leave the contents in the closed zipped bag for a few days, when it oxidizes, you’ll want to brush your item with fine steel wool.  Polishing with a soft cloth afterwards will complete your project.  You hope to come out of this with a nice aged-look on your item. The longer you leave it in the bag, the darker your patina will be. Make sure to discard your eggs when done, do not consume them.

The alternative to this method in the kitchen is of course using Liver of sulfur (which actually smells the same) but, this is a natural way to avoid that chemical.

I look forward to trying this technique as I become a bit more brave with rotting egg smell.  However, if it works, in the end it doesn’t stink after all.

Do not eat the eggs after you have completed this project.

From “Junk” To Jewerly

3 Jul

Club Creative Studio loves an artistic challenge.

Looking at items in a different way opens doors to creative thinking and possibilities.  Yesterday on my way home from a run, I found a few unrelated yet wonderful items that I just knew I could combine and connect in some manner.  It seems that if I can’t make jewelry from items, I want to at least do something else creative with it. I picked these items off the street as misplaced “junk” and knew that with a little TLC, it could be turned into jewelry.  As I looked at the findings for a split second,  I knew EXACTLY what I wanted to try using the old discarded metal spoon and the glass heart fob.

I thought this project topic would make a great TWO-CENT TUESDAY post since the found components were very low-cost… FREE from my discovery. As soon as I picked up the items I thought: “Finders…Keepers”, what a lucky day for me to have an opportunity to turn junk into jewelry. Although they were random items to find on a street, I thought that  I found real TREASURES!  And FREE to boot!

Finding materials that are uncommon or are actually considered to be “found” objects are great because you can’t beat FREE! Plus, it pushes your imagination to be creative.  To put strange and unrelated items together is the ultimate challenge to figure out how to take something low-cost and turn it into something of actual worth or visual value to someone.

Looking at a spoon and a glass fob like these, would you know what you would initially do with them to transform them into a new and useful item?  Happily, I share what I did as I envisioned using these items to make another unique one-of-a-kind jewelry art piece.  What do you think of stage two?  I added wire and glass beads to the end section of the spoon.

with a few more additions, I was able to complete my necklace.  Using red and white hand-rolled clay beads, additional glass beads, a few formed glass heart beads and silver-tone findings and charms, the necklace is now a unique item.  Let me know what you think!

Whenever I am asked to create a custom piece, I love the challenge just as I enjoyed bringing this vision to life.  For more creative creations visit the website or drop me a line to let me know your specific jewelry needs. It’s always a thrill to create from recycled or found objects so I welcome your challenges.

Chunky and Funky

3 May

The chunky style.

I am feeling chunky today.  Not because I ate too much, it’s because of the great style choice known as fun chunky jewelry.

It is not often that someone would actually appreciate being associated with the term of being called “chunky”. It is a negative counteraction for the most part, and can have health risks associated with the term as well.  Sporting and enjoying a “chunky look” when wearing  jewelry however, is a fun term.  It’s a way to slim down your need for layering or wearing many other jewelry items at once.  This Thursday TNT (This-N-That) post brings attention to the lasting trend in jewelry fashion.  Do you enjoy chunky and funky jewelry fashion?

Club Creative Studio. Hand-made beads incorporated in a chunky style necklace design.

When you wear chunky jewelry, it speaks for itself.  It is known and appreciated as being statement jewelry.  The chunky look is bold and substantial.

I have often shared photos of Club Creative Studio art that fits well into the chunky style category.  I enjoy creating jewelry and offering items with personality.  A festive and funky chunky necklace or bracelet generally contains more beads in its creation, so the chunky look can be achieved.  Adding more beads gives the wearer a deeper appreciation a love of the variety and over-all collection of beads that combine to form one piece of art.

Chunky style jewelry does not necessarily have to be heavy in weight to wear because of the amount of beads it contains. Chunky yet light-weight beads can be made from clay, leucite, plastic, acrylic, shell and resins and still maintain their comfort associations while looking substantial.

Another fun chunky-style necklace by Club Creative Studio with hand-made clay beads.

Glass, ceramic and wood beads can sometimes add to the overall heaviness of a piece but can still be comfortable to wear.  The comfort you prefer when you chose to adorn a chunky neckline can be decided from the length and weight of the beads in your jewelry.

Although personal style sometimes will supersede how comfortable you really are, a statement piece does not need to weigh you down.  If you do not have many items that are chunky on their own you do have the option of wearing several necklaces or bracelets together at once.  This method is great to utilize your jewelry in different ways and mix up your won combinations.

No matter what your method is for obtaining the chunky look, when you add more jewelry instead of added calories to your body frame, you get noticed for favorable reasons for the most part.  Chunky jewelry does not add calories to your life-style and your figure, the last time I checked.  Enjoy having fun wearing chunky jewelry.

G is for Gain Great Looks 5 Ways

7 Apr

Club Creative Studio offers creative one-of-a-kind Art to Set You Apart.  Today’s post also offers five suggestions for how to GO FOR GREATNESS with your jewelry fashion selections. While first considering the fashion trend report found from Squido, read on for suggestions to put you a step forward.

(Source: Squido)

In 2011 the jewelry tendencies showcased big, bold and chunky pieces. In 2012 the top 10 jewelry trends are all about classic pieces for the spring as well as natural pieces for the fall collection. 2012 will be all about sustainability, recycled, raw pieces that will range from classic to exotic. We will also see that few trends that started out in 2011 that will continue to be hot fashion items in 2012, such as the big and bold rings as well as mix of vintage with a contemporary flair.

In addition Bright colors will also be a huge within jewelry industry and you can expect to see bold / unexpected color combinations. Large gemstones and natural geodes and crystals will also be so in!

Standing out on the 2012 runways was the presence of resin jewelry pieces. Bright, colorful and Chunky these pieces are made to make a statement that can be bold and fun at the same time.

With that information at hand, I offer information as you decide ways to mix up your style.  Club Creative Studio does create chunky style art, resin art, colorful art, classic and exotic looking art. It seems then that we are right on track with providing the popular looks that the fashion experts predict to be wonderful. Why be ordinary when your jewelry art can set you apart?  Consider these steps.

Step One Great Look:  LAYER

Pile it on. Layer your necklaces and bracelets. Yes, it is true, delicate chains do go with chunky beads.  Try it out and experiment.  You can wear mixed metals, silver with gold, gold with copper and so on.  You can avoid the fashion police and still break all the old fashion rules by layering different styles for a variety of brand-new looks.  Learn to layer.

I created these two necklaces differently but, with the same "feel" so they could be layered together or worn alone as a single necklace.

Step Two Great Look:  COORDINATE

Choose the right necklace by picking out items with style and personality.  Make sure that you enjoy wearing jewelry for comfort along with style.  Wear necklaces that hang above and below the neckline depending on the outfit. Pick out a flattering necklace to help enhance the look of an outfit. Consider the space that your neckline provides as a canvas to fill and compliment. Coordinate your style, the neckline focus and the colors you put together for a total complimentary look.  Aspects depend on your clothing choices. Mix and match the colors, and layers for a new look also consider coordinating a mood or theme with your outfit and jewelry choices.

Coordinate neckline, color of necklace and length for a complimentary complete look.

Step Three Great Look:  CONTRAST

Look to the color wheel to combine unusual color combinations for a “pop” of color enhanced or a great eye-catching combination of jewelry against an outfit. Also consider general color variations so that you can enjoy a range of colors all at once.

Contrasting color combos add dramatic personality in your over-all look. Here consider wearing two different necklaces with two different colors. design is similar but if colors blend or contrast, you gain a great new vibe.

Step Four Great Look:  STATEMENT

When you wear jewelry with a focal point that really “says something”, and seems like it may have a life of its own with a personality to match, then you probably own what is known as statement. A statement piece stands on its own well and can dress up a plain or solid colored outfit.  Statement pieces say something about art, your style, your personality and your courage and confidence.  A statement piece may even fit into the category of being unique and unusual. It really “speaks” to you or others.  Listen to what your jewelry says.

This is a chunky-type necklace with larger beads and focal pendant. The necklace on the right is made with three guitar pics as part of the focal point.

STEP FIVE GREAT LOOK:   BE BOLD

Using your courage to wear something bold can allow you to express your originality, creativity, and fashion sence.  Be bold in your look so that you can add confidence and style.  Add a new and different look so that you can be expressive without even saying a word.  For additional art items that are sure to set you apart by being original and festive, please take time to visit the ever-changing items in the inventory of hand-made art at in Club Creative Studio’s collection online.

F is for Findings

6 Apr

In the A to Z Blog Challenge, I am blogging today with a focus on the letter f.  F is for Findings.  What are findings?

Findings are not hard to “find” unless you drop a few of them in deep pile carpet. Findings are small elements that are needed to finish a jewelry project when creating it. It can be referred to in many forms.  A finding can be a hook, a closure, a small metal detail like a protective guardian wire, among a few examples.  Jewelry Findings is an old world term used to describe the components which go into the making of jewelry.

Findings used often in jewelry-making are wire hooks, loops, beads and caps, bead cones, clasps, crimps, charms, head pins, and eye pins to name even more.  Most online sites, books, and stores have organized their Jewelry Findings in a few different ways for viewing and shopping convenience. If you know your material and finish preference, you can navigate by the type of material.  Often offered are precious metal, solid metals, or base metal findings. Categories are then further broken down by types of findings.

Findings are not hard to FIND!

Once you know the type of finding you are looking for, you can decide on the various types of specific earring findings, clasps and toggles, bails and component holders to name more.

Sometimes, a finding is a not so common element needed to complete a project.  As examples, a clasp shortener, eye-glass sling, or pin finding and pin clutch fit into that category.

A shortener clasp finding allows you to convert a long strand of pearls or beads to wear it as a double strand. Also called a twister clasp for twisting multiple strands together.

Adjustable eyeglass slings.

Pins and a clinch clutch are sometimes sold separately. Pin findings have a flat top. Pin clutches have flanges that can be pinched to make the clutch easier to remove from the pin.

Hand-made simple clasp sample.

Now that you can identify what a finding is, you can perhaps appreciate the functionality and details of findings in jewelry art.  Be sure to check out how I incorporate my findings in created art and see if you can spot a hand-made finding in Club Creative Studio items.

“D” is for Dare To Be Different

Dare to be different- in your jewelry accessory choices!

Club Creative Studio Art fits right in with my tag line ART THAT SETS YOU APART!  Taking steps to provide an opportunity for others to stand out in a crowd is what I love to do.  Together, we can “Dare to be Different” when we wear, display or give items that are unique, hand-made.  How will you stand out from the billions living in our world?

Club Creative Studio Beads added to Art That Sets You Apart.

Having courage to step out of your comfort zone when chosing or wearing statement jewelry is a big step for many.  It is fine if larger, chunky accessories are not your style.  However, if the aim is to use jewelry as accent and focal point wearable art- then being more bold in wearing something unique and eye-catching is the way to go.  Why be ordinary?

I am not talking about wearing jewelry that is strange, gaudy or heavily adorned.  But, those are words that some may use to describe more unique adornments.  To me, daring to be different may mean wearing an occasional change of style or something that may compliment an outfit no matter if it is your particular taste or not.  While it is important to like what you wear, maybe once and a while stepping out of the box to just wear jewelry for the sake of display can be a step in a new direction.

Also, if you tend to wear the same basic jewelry with every outfit, challenge yourself to mix it up. Even if what you change to is a simple look, displaying something different from your normal look is a step forward in the right direction of having a fresh look. Those who know you well will notice the slight change even if you think it is a dramatic twist to your style.

Consider wearing jewelry that has a theme.  Sometimes when you mix up the feel of your jewelry, your attitude changes.

Club Creative Studio Beads combine to make unique jewelry.

Look at your clothing options and decide how your jewelry choices can compliment and contrast your total look. It can be a new style to allow your jewelry to “pop”, demanding attention.  Take a plain dress or top and dress it up with a statement piece of jewelry.  If it is hand-made…you KNOW you have a unique item to be proud of  owning and wearing.
