Lady In Red

Club Creative Studio. Samples in Red.

Are you seeing red lately?  The color red?  Are you finding the desire to dress or wear accessories that are red in color? Would you notice a lady in red when you see one?

It seems that the color red is around us more during December and February.  You are probably seeing red hearts, roses, bows, candy wrappings, candy boxes, clothing and jewelry highlighting the color red now-a-days.

Club Creative Studio loves to create with the color red.

Club Creative Studio loves to create with the color red.

Does the color red invoke certain feelings for you? I recently asked Club Creative Studio Facebook friends this very question: What comes to mind when you see the color red?  Here are some of their responses in a word: power, passion. love, lipstick, hearts. blood, roses. I think that the color red is also fiery, hot and bright.  It awakens our imagination and stimulates our brain.  Have you heard of the “power tie”?  A power tie is a necktie that is red.  Red gives you strength and confidence.

Take a look at yourself the next time you are wearing the color red. Are you acting with extra spunk or attitude?  Are you happy and loving when you sport red?

You don’t need to be covered from head to toe to get a taste of red in your life. If it is not your normal color to wear try an accessory or small pop of color from a necklace, bracelet or earrings.

I do not have items “color-coded” on the website but, you will find red integrated into hand-made art within the Club Creative Studio online storefront found at http://www.clubcreativestudio.com  I welcome you to browse and see if something catches your eye there.  Maybe it will be something created in the color red, maybe in an unexpected color combination. Happy Shopping!

Flashback of Creativity

6 Jan

A few months ago I was taken back. I was transported to the past where  fond childhood memories were clear as day.  It was at a craft fair that took place around the Christmas holiday.  I attended with my neighbor.  Many rooms were decorated with items for sale. There were many trees set up with ornaments for sale and there were many people doing their holiday shopping.

It wasn’t until I went upstairs to a particular room that I experienced my flashback.  The flash from the past was a clear as the days of old. I was in utter amazement in what was sitting under a decorated tree.  I discover in this room, a childhood friend.  Something so familiar and missed that seeing it brought tears to my eyes.  REALLY! I dropped to the floor on my knees to get a closer look.  I reached out to hold this dear object and I picked it up gingerly.  WOW! It was meant to be! Finding this lost treasure from my past was a sign that I needed to buy it for myself. For a second or two, I needed to reward myself and take back, reclaim what was a big part of my life in the past. I had to have that doll!

This is Mrs. Beasley and me. She is my blast from the past doll.

This is Mrs. Beasley and me. She is my blast from the past doll.

Mrs. Beasley was a fabric  and plastic doll made by Mattel in 1967.  Today she is considered vintage.  This particular Mrs.Beasley doll is a vintage re-make with the recordings of Cheryl Ladd as the grandmotherly voice used in her string activated voice box encased in the doll’s  cotton fabric torso area.  The doll was designed to resemble a grandmotherly type figure. She also had a string that you pulled to make her “talk”. The phrases she spoke were of things a Grandmother might say like: “I do believe you are the nicest little friend I ever had.” and “Would you like to try on my glasses, you may if you wish.”

The doll was made popular by the sit-com, family show starring Brian Keith. It was called: Family Affair. Keith played an uncle who was put in charge of these adorable twin children named Buffy and Jody.  Mr. French was a supporting character as the butler.  It was one of those feel good shows that I just loved watching as a child on television.

Buffy had a Mrs. Beasley doll on the show and they were pretty popular dolls.  The fabric of the doll’s body was blue and white poka-dot. It was a very stiff-stuffed doll with arms, torso and legs, that were solid and great for wear and tear.  That doll was durable.  Mrs. Beasley came with her own plastic granny glasses and a hair net. Funny now to think about those factors that seemed appealing to have on a doll.

I earned my own money to buy my Mrs. Beasley by making loom pot holders! I remember making many of the square loom pot holders in hopes that those in my neighborhood would buy them so that I could have enough money for my Mrs. Beasley doll. They did, so you know I had a fond appreciation for her because of the added efforts in obtaining her.

The funny part about finding this doll that day were the comments I got while I was holding her while shopping the rest of that shopping spree. Women would stop to talk about her and tell me that they had a Mrs. Beasley doll too or that they knew someone who had one when they were growing up.  One lady even asked if I were planning on buying it for sure because she would consider it if I did not want to purchase it.  I did buy it and I guess I was not ready for the reaction of my family when I brought my tiny treasure home.

My blast from the past doll.

My blast from the past doll.

The cats found her curious but were not impressed with it. And my husband did not know why I “needed” a doll at my age. My daughter thought it was “creepy” and said she was going to give her nightmares. Oh well!  She is mine. I have been reunited with my friend, Mrs.Beasley!

Do you have a flash from the past item that you are attached to for personal or creative reasons? Do share. Creativity is meant to be appreciated.

The Ayes Have It

2 Jan

Do you like bright colors? The ayes and EYES have it.  Like it or not color is exploding with popularity in eye shadow shades and elsewhere.  Do you have a “go-to” palette that you rely on? Have you noticed the new fashion trends in make-up, nail polish color and fashion in general?  Club Creative Studio has seen a recent change to neon and bright colors from common fashion looks in nail polish to eye shadows.  Although there are signs of more subtle shades, take a look at some of the common painted lids.  What do you think of them?

Ready or willing to add some bling to your eye area?

Consider the color wheel when picking out shades of eye shadows. Cool or warm colors can look very dramatic.

Glitter makes this look glam.

It’s a new trend to apply rub-on temporary tatto-like, shadows onto your eye-lid areas.

Of course, I have highlighted some extreme looks here but, it is an exciting color trend for 2013.  It’s a growing love for color upon eye lids. A commercial I recently saw describes their color line as Color Tattoos, meaning that the colors are bright and long-lasting. I think it takes a certain type person and style to pull off the heavier colored eye lids. It is not me but, I love the dramatic look. It may also be a matter of applying with confidence and practice that makes the look appealing. What do you think?  Willing to try out a new color trend for the sake of fashion? What is your stand-by color of choice when it comes to eye shadow tints?

I love when color becomes a main focus and becomes influential in our lives. The challenge for me, as a bead and jewelry designer is to use that information from a popular trend and experiment with similar color combos in my clay and glass art.  I want to reflect what the trends are but, I don’t live and breathe them. Sometimes the transfer appeal works and creations are noticed more quickly, simply because of the color in the item design.  Other times, color has no apparent barring on our creation popularity and it comes down to personal choice of customers.  A person is drawn to Club Creative Studio Art because of taste in style or design, appreciation for creativity and unique factors and the fun and functional staying power of a well made one-of-a-kind item.  Whatever the main reason is for a second glance of Club Creative Studio Art, I am happy to offer items that are pleasing to the eye! The ayes do have it!

Decoding Color

Welcome to Club Creative Studio’s blog. If you have not been informed and are not in tune with the color trend that is just around the corner in 2013, this post is for your information.

Women’s palette: What’s the color code assigned to 2013?

It has already been predicted. This season designers and other creative people have taken note of consumers and their desires to be awaken by color.  Green is going to be the popular go-to color trend that we will express energy and nature. There are going to be interesting complimentary color combinations assigned to the color green as well. Looking toward the color wheel you an expect to see orange and green combine and that my friends, is one example of an exciting color combo!

Many shades of GREEN will be the hot trend to wear in 2013.

Many shades of GREEN will be the hot trend to wear in 2013. Do you have anything in emerald-green?

Along with the green hues, you can expect to see a variety of green. Vibrant yellow greens, subtle jade tones, greens with grey undertones. Gem-stone emerald-green and all nature inspired green tones will adorn clothing, make-up, jewelry accessories, fabrics, interior designs/home decor and more.

There are also great colors combinations that will introduce themselves as statement colors such as the colors deep violet, bright poppy red, nectarine/citrus, and refreshing lemon tones.

For evenings, the highlighted colors are dusty blues, and warm neutrals.

Looking forward to the predicted color trends of 2013.

Do you have items ready to fill the bill of the color green explosion?  Have you thought about how you can combine the bright statement colors that will also be popular?  If you are not sure about how some of these colors look together, be brave and try the different color combinations, I know I will in my future art creations.

Happily, I am ahead of the curve in creating some items that already have these combinations incorporated.  To view and purchase jewelry art that is fashionable and on-trend, as well as hand-made, please browse the Club Creative Studio website. You will certainly view Art That Sets You Apart.

Party with ABC

27 Nov

You have got to start someplace- start your creativity at the beginning!

With an open mind, I write about an “ABC Party” today.  They never had these celebrations in my college days (at least I never knew about them). An A. B. C. party is a gathering of people wearing Anything But Clothing!  It’s a theme party where the guest’s attire is a specific expression and brought into focus.  The point of an ABC party is to have all of your guests show up dressed in everyday items such as newspaper, plastic bags, duck tape, feathers, etc.,  rather than real clothing.

As another “Two-Cent Tuesday” post, I offer suggestions on what to make an outfit from as well as save you money while you are being creative.

Spreading the word

Apparently, to announce an ABC party you need only inform your prospective guests that it IS an ABC party.  They know what to do, especially if they are college aged.  Since most college students know what this is.  The creativity begins in the planning.  It is likely  that you will see people dressed in inexpensive items such as trash bags, bubble-wrap material, or even painted. I have inclosed a list of items that might be creatively used, just in case you ever find yourself invited to such a party.  Good luck adding things to undergarments, leotards or spanks in order to obtain a unique look

Materials to Consider

  • Newspaper- fold to pleet, crush, layer
  • Plastic bubble wrap- wrap around or form into pattern shape of article of clothing attaching “seams” with clear packing tape. I have even seen pink wrap, wouldn’t that be cool?
  • Feathers, coins, buttons, beaded necklaces, socks, envelopes collect items and  hot glue to swim suit for your theme
  • Sheets- you have heard of a “toga” right?
  • Duct tape is available in decorative colors and prints now-a-days. I do not recommend attaching to your skin, however. Double tape back-to-back then wrap/form
  • Christmas Lights can be attached to colored plastic wrap. I have seen green cellophane- you could look like a Christmas tree.
  • Large canvas- I can “picture” two put together as a sort of walking bill-board
  • Burlap sacks- large potato bags, gift bags, empty snack bags, empty juice boxes, wrapping paper
  • Beer boxes, soda boxes, pizza boxes, shoe boxes, cereal boxes- cut or tape together
  • Deck of cards or Uno game cards- attached to one piece suit
  • Curtains- from a window or a shower
  • Body paint- I do not recommend spray paint- let’s be smart here!
  • Large cardboard boxes- from a television or appliance
  • Plastic bags can be crocheted, braided or attached together with tape
  • Venetian Blinds, a bit hard to sit in but still covers a large area
  • Hawian grass skirt or something made to look like one (plastic bags)
  • Aluminum foil (watch the sharp edges) candy wrappers
  • Towels or a decorated robe
  • Fabric from a table cloth or pillow case
  • Rugs or place mats
  • Crepe paper streamers, balloons, ribbon
  • Wrapping paper can be laminated or taped with clear tape to reinforce for strength and durability
  • Decorative papers from magazines, posters, letters, wall paper
  • Selected board games or Twister “board” which is a large plastic material
  • Faux animal furs from fabric store or decorative rugs
  • Sleeping bag or blanket
  • Tarps can be tied with rope or large bungee cord
  • Egg crate mattress pad
  • CD / DVD covers can be attached together with hot glue
  • Hammock or bed spread
  • Deflated pool raft or inflated life-preserver vest
  • Car  window shield shade- cover length very well
  • Lamp shade- could make a cute skirt
  • Fabric made from woven plant leaf, actual food or other material
  • Hunting vest
  • Couch cushions- tie them together
  • Cloth napkins or connected bandanas
  • Yoga mats
  • Soft luggage
  • Take a trip to the local thrift store to see what can be recycled or repurposed into clothing
  • What do you have round the house to convert into clothing for an ABC party?

Creative Thankfulness (5)

5 Sep

Club Creative Studio Art and bold suede cord strands.

Today, Club Creative Studio stops to be thankful for three words and the implications it brings to the fashion world. Choice, chance and change.

Choices

It is great news to know that hand-made art can be both unique and affordable. You are able to realize that when you wear something created from Club Creative Studio, you are the only one in the entire world that owns it.  When you wear something hand-made and one-of-a-kind, you express yourself as being an individual and special.  We are happy to offer a variety of choices online and take pride in knowing that nothing is ever made in duplicate.  The choice is yours to be different and supportive of the arts and art created by hand. Make a choice to express yourself creatively.

Chances

Chances are you will notice that suede is going to be popular in shoes and maybe elsewhere. I have created several simple necklaces that have colored suede cords as the strands so that is right on target for the Fall fashion season already.  The color cobalt blue is said to be popular as well as glitter and sparkle (yeah).  While you will still see and enjoy tone-on-tone items, statement pieces and men’s wear inspired looks will spill into women’s accessories.  How will you take a chance in your Fall fashion statements?  Dare to be different! Take a chance, show your creative side.

This Fall season: you’ll notice tassels, Oxford flat shoes, leopard and wing-tipped shoes, and colored toe caps, the chunky look and to me the most exciting: patterns and bold colors!

Bright colors are great for summer and fall if combined with other accessories that can compliment the boldness.

Changes

What changes will you be inspired to make?  Will you embrace the glitter and sequins trend?  Will you explore and appreciate the colors and patterns in new items?  As far as making beads that relate to the new trends, I am pleased and excited to see more contrasting colors and floral and geometric graphics around us. I look forward to coordinating Art That Sets You Apart with fashion-forward movements. Make a change from being ordinary to extraordinary, strut your creative stuff!

You might notice how things I look at can inspire bead-making for me. Do you see any similar qualities in the shoes above and the rectangle bamboo beads pictured here? Like changing your shoes, adding bright and bold colors to your wardrobe could be the jumpstart you need to meet and greet the new trend.  I remain thankful that our items lend well to standing out and offering unique and varied choices of art.

Color and texture combine for an interesting look for Fall.

Have fun as you attempt to use your creativity and make choices, take a chance, and allow the changes to be an extended expression of your style.  I’d love to help by suggesting that Club Creative Studio creations are as unique as you are.  Club Creative Studio Art found at http://www.clubcreativestudio.com offers you a wide choice of hand-made creations, gives you the chance to visit over and over again and purchase online at your convience, as well as shares in the excitement that our art can change your appearance in an affordable manner through its hand-crafted artistic designs.

Thank you for wearing and sharing Club Creative Studio Art

Black and White

Black and white “Tube Bead” from Club Creative Studio
http://www.clubcreativestudio.com

Club Creative Studio is no doubt in love with creating art items using bright and vivid color combinations.  However, this does not mean that anything created in neutrals of black and white are tossed to the side.  NOOOOO, far from that idea.  I also create using black and white in polymer clay and glass.

Hand-made bracelet by Club Creative Studio. http://www.clubcreativestudio.com

I love creating in black and white because of the contrast it lends us visually.  Black happens to be my “favorite color” so, to combine black with any other color is always aesthetically pleasing  to me.  I use black to define and separate areas.  The outlines become just as important that the other elements in my clay bead designs.

Club Creative Studio creates one-of-a-kind art. This is a hand-made necklace featuring a hand-designed black and white crystal pendant with unique elements.

The stark contrast when using black and white draw our eyes into focus of the division of shape and that seems to attract and keep our attention.

Club Creative Studio creates black and white beads for high contrast focal beads.

I am blogging about black and white today because it is “Cow Appreciation Day” today.  Being from the midwest, cows are pretty important.  I will celebrate them today by creating more black and white beads to match the common milk cow, and the abilities of black and white in art to stand out from the ordinary.  Do you like black and white contrast colors together?  What do you like about black and white accessories?

Club Creative Studio Black and White hand-made cuff bracelet.

Club Creative Studio guitar pic earrings. The black and white contrast is what I love in this design.

The next time you see someone wearing items that are designed in black and white, try to determine why you are drawn to that combination.  They are striking for sure.

>Spring fever, fresh colors and bright beginnings.

10 Apr

>I am taking the gentle turn into the season by adding lighter shades into the clays, in an attempt to welcome spring. I hope to mimic the color combinations around me. My outdoor adventures help me take note of the color changes. By admiring the budding trees and taking notice of the trends, you will see fresh and lighter color combinations all around you.

I will be making a special point to add white clay to my color mixing so that the pastel shades emerge. Some of the colors you can look forward to are happily “accidental”. I do not measure or mix colors in bulk. I just add a pinch here and here until the result is pleasing and cohesive with another tint. I other words, with my hand-mixing…there is no set recipe, the tints are made by having the confidence in mixing without ending up with “mud”. Some colors that I plan to incorporate already have assigned names because of their inspirations. Among those named are: sea foam, sand, gull cream, azalea pink, lily pad and Augusta green, coral, furn gully, spring rain, blue grass, mum fest, asiatics, rose petals, daffodil, and blue bird.

It may be billed as a time for new beginnings but, that doesn’t mean that you need to abandon those darker colors that you may like or are drawn to wear. If you label yourself as being an “autumn” person for example…you may like knowing that those gem tones look great on you. However, you might be wondering if you should take those colors into spring. Fashion is funny, personal and trendy at times. It may depend on your clothing choices and it may depend on your moods. It may also depend on your activities. The carefree days of summer, for example tend to call for a simple look or theme for the day. Club Creative Studio creates one-of-a-kind, hand-torched Italian glass beads on a simple cord that lend to this non-complex fashion feel and look. You can mix it up in the evenings, wearing something more substantial or with a piece with a specific theme like nautical or floral. The trends turn from colors to textures of the season as well. Sometimes, a highlighted stone or rock, a simple chain or knot, or a faucet cut crystal gives a different outlook of simplicity around your neck, wrist, or a dangle in earrings. If you want to follow trends, just “window shop” and see what is predicted or out there now. This doesn’t mean that you have to follow those trends. If anything, you will know what to work against, right?

Whatever your style, personality, or personal taste dictates…that is what you like…that is what you buy…that is what you wear.
