Creative Thankfulness (3)

Club Creative Studio’s Handmade wire art necklace.

Yesterday’s post from Club Creative Studio shared a few challenges of the latest wire worked project.  Any single day can be filled with obstacles if you are trying a creative project for a first time or have been away from a technique for any duration of time.  Today’s Feature Friday post will share a few successes from the challenges of working with wire in a new way.

Wire art from Club Creative Studio.

Basicly, when I sat to create these necklaces, I wanted to have the feeling and look of the technique of chain maille but, not all of the complicated segments. That look combines individual loops in a maze-like pattern repeated over and over that link together.  This did the trick for me because for one, I did not get a headache or confused too often and for the second reason, I was able to duplicate the method using a variation of technique.

Today, I am thankful for variety at the design table, especially the variety of wire.

Wire lends itself to change.  Wire has different levels of strength and durability, it has a range in gauge (thickness), presents itself in suitable qualities, and it  is offered in a variety of colors as well. It is a wonderful to experiment with. When I wrap in wire, it also looks wonderful to mix silver, gold or copper wires together. I love working with wire. Does it show?

Black and White

Black and white “Tube Bead” from Club Creative Studio

Club Creative Studio is no doubt in love with creating art items using bright and vivid color combinations.  However, this does not mean that anything created in neutrals of black and white are tossed to the side.  NOOOOO, far from that idea.  I also create using black and white in polymer clay and glass.

Hand-made bracelet by Club Creative Studio. http://www.clubcreativestudio.com

I love creating in black and white because of the contrast it lends us visually.  Black happens to be my “favorite color” so, to combine black with any other color is always aesthetically pleasing  to me.  I use black to define and separate areas.  The outlines become just as important that the other elements in my clay bead designs.

Club Creative Studio creates one-of-a-kind art. This is a hand-made necklace featuring a hand-designed black and white crystal pendant with unique elements.

The stark contrast when using black and white draw our eyes into focus of the division of shape and that seems to attract and keep our attention.

Club Creative Studio creates black and white beads for high contrast focal beads.

I am blogging about black and white today because it is “Cow Appreciation Day” today.  Being from the midwest, cows are pretty important.  I will celebrate them today by creating more black and white beads to match the common milk cow, and the abilities of black and white in art to stand out from the ordinary.  Do you like black and white contrast colors together?  What do you like about black and white accessories?

The next time you see someone wearing items that are designed in black and white, try to determine why you are drawn to that combination.  They are striking for sure.

Creative on Contact (Part l)

10 Jul A section of my daughter's wall art project.

Club Creative Studio likes to reserve the Tuesday post for low-cost creative projects.  Today’s Two-Cent Tuesday post is another way to use your stored up creativity in a low-cost manner.  Decorating can be costly but, there are ways to avoid that if you use your imagination.

This is a fun project with low-cost factors.

Among the many types of individuals that are penny-pinching these days are the many college bound and college dorm resident students.  You don’t have to be among is category to celebrate your creativity in this suggested project but, it is an ideal solution to decorating and personalizing your dormitory walls, or any wall.  Turn your doodles into art.

This post will feature the art of my daughter and her project intended to decorate and place her mark and personality upon her walls of her future living space.  Last year she had a focus on using post it notes to decorate her plain white walls of her dorm.  This year her space will be colorful and personal as well.  She is using clear contact paper as her medium. This sticky on one side only plastic is low-cost at less than six dollars for a roll of transparent Contact brand paper.  She also used her colorful Sharpie brand permanent markers.  It would be helpful to also use a flat long surface to work on.

My daughter used clear Con-Tact Brand in this decorative project.

To begin, gather your Sharpie brand markers, they work best because they are colorful and adhere nicely to the slick surface of the Con-Tact paper.  You may wish to use additional paper underneath the ends of the paper so that the markers do not damage your work surface. Sharpie brand markers are permanent markers.

Unroll and begin at one end of the paper and start your decorative doodles.  You can letter quotes, draw illustrations, write down positive affirmations and mantras and stick photos or cut outs under a section of the clear paper.  Whatever you put on or under your sheet of paper will show up nicely through the transparent and protective adhesive plastic sheet.

A section of my daughter’s wall art project.

Consider your designs to coordinate with the color of your wall.

It took a while to add to the entire roll. So you may want to do this project as a group art project or invest time if you do this as an individual.  My daughter intends to use her entire decorated roll as a wall border.  She will place it as a wide strip across her focal wall at eye-level to add a splash of color to her over-all decorated wall.  If there is additional left over after fitting to the space she wants covered, she was thinking of also placing a strip or sections onto her floor.  Con-Tact paper will be easily removed later and can be used on many type of surfaces safely.  She has used it on her mirrors to decorate the corners of them, on her desk-top to decorate that work space, on cabinets as cut-outs like decals or stickers would be used and she has also used this method of decorating on her windows.  A whole lovely theme could be incorporated with this very low-cost method.  Best of all, when removed, you can change out your theme or decorative written focus.

In this section: My daughter incorporated ovals as “fill-in-the-blanks” for others to add their “two-cents” to her wall mural creation.

This self-adhesive is a little tricky to apply alone if you use a whole sheet, so have some help on hand when applying.  Make sure that you have an idea of the total length you wish to cover, do some measuring or cutting.  apply to a clean, smooth surface. You can use a squeegee or wall paper smoothing tool to aid in getting bubbles out of paper when you flatten it to the wall.  Your hands rubbing across the surface will do well enough however, if you take the application process slowly.

It is NOT recommended to apply to wood or any water-based paint unless it is given a coat of varnish or shellac because it will stick and be removed with residue from this type wall. Test the wall if you have concerns.  For best results in application, the manufacturer of Con-Tact suggests that the surface be above 55 degrees farenheit  or  13 degrees celsius for best results.  They also mention that some shrinkage may occur so overlapping can be done.  This is also helpful to do if you are concerned about edges being touched or rubbed.

Draw directly on the Con-Tact paper to create your unique designs.

When you peel off the backing, you want to try to do this evenly.  For covering a wall which is a very large section, it is best to have help and peel small sections.  We will be doing this together in a few weeks so I will be sure to blog about how this turns out at a later date.

For now, I’d also like to share that one technique of application could be to begin at the middle (center) of your wall and press outwards towards the edge.  You may also use a ruler or cloth to smooth out the bubbles that may form when applying. We like this material because it can be lifted to reposition easily and get out any wrinkles that are formed. It is fun to see your wall “come to life” with your art. I can hardly wait to see what my daughter’s art looks like up on her wall.

This material is plastic so you should be aware that pulling too hard will stretch and distort your paper and in turn your images. Use care to place your finished project on the wall of other surface you wish to adorn.  If you are planning to cut your paper at any point, it is nice to also know that the back of Con-Tact brand paper they have pre-marked straight lines to follow to ensure a straight cut, they have also marked with measurements, so that is such a handy-dandy element to help you adhere and alter your paper art.

Make your banner art as long or as short as you wish.

Be sure to visit the blog again in the near future to see how her project looks in her living space.  I’d also love to hear if you try this method of low-cost decorating yourself.  Good luck and happy creating. We are CREATIVE EVERY DAY and hope that you experience fun as you attempt this project sometime yourself.

Club Creative Studio: Creative Clay Beads

9 Jul Collection of Club Creative Studio hand-rolled clay beads.

Collection of Club Creative Studio hand-rolled clay beads.

Club Creative Studio creates hand-rolled, polymer clay beads that are one-of-a-kind.  Each bead is created from thirteen separate steps to complete each individual final item.  I also hand-slice the designs from canes or hand-rolled and layered logs created from the hand-conditioned clay.

Each bead basically consists of layers upon layers of clay and each section is applied by hand.

To make each bead even more unique, I limit the particular color and designs to no more than the count of fifteen beads total from the same cane.  Many designs are made in a lesser count and all are not created again in the same manner once they are made into a batch.

The penny coin shows the size comparison of these smaller beads.

Each batch is baked according to manufacturers recommendations and they are then decided upon if they will remain a non-gloss texture or require a hand-glossed and polished finish.

At first glance many think these beads are painted. They are not painted, the designs are created by layering clay.

I create beads from my hand-mixed colors that ensure that no one else will have the same color combinations, the colors are all unique and I experiment with matching and creating new tints from an endless supply of inspirational colors from nature, and man-made items like fabric and items that are around me.

Collection of hand-made clay beads from Club Creative Studio.

I also just mix colors “by feel” whatever feels right to combine, I add a pinch here and there.  I don’t have formulas or measurements to create my color palates. I just “go for it”, and combine colors that feel and look pleasing.

I have unlimited possibilities of design when I work with polymer clay.

I hope you have enjoyed viewing a few photos of thenumerous batches of finished hand-made beads, I have created.  I enjoy taking photos of beads in this stage to show the steps taken from the start of a single bead in a collection used to incorporate into a finished art form.  Enjoy the different styles and designs- remembering that all were created in batches that include love…the love of bead-making, the love of variety and the love of creativity in creating beads from clay by hand.

I love to create colors that are reflective of nature, fashion-forward trends, traditional and inspired from custom requests.

From “Junk” To Jewerly

3 Jul

Club Creative Studio loves an artistic challenge.

Looking at items in a different way opens doors to creative thinking and possibilities.  Yesterday on my way home from a run, I found a few unrelated yet wonderful items that I just knew I could combine and connect in some manner.  It seems that if I can’t make jewelry from items, I want to at least do something else creative with it. I picked these items off the street as misplaced “junk” and knew that with a little TLC, it could be turned into jewelry.  As I looked at the findings for a split second,  I knew EXACTLY what I wanted to try using the old discarded metal spoon and the glass heart fob.

I thought this project topic would make a great TWO-CENT TUESDAY post since the found components were very low-cost… FREE from my discovery. As soon as I picked up the items I thought: “Finders…Keepers”, what a lucky day for me to have an opportunity to turn junk into jewelry. Although they were random items to find on a street, I thought that  I found real TREASURES!  And FREE to boot!

Finding materials that are uncommon or are actually considered to be “found” objects are great because you can’t beat FREE! Plus, it pushes your imagination to be creative.  To put strange and unrelated items together is the ultimate challenge to figure out how to take something low-cost and turn it into something of actual worth or visual value to someone.

Looking at a spoon and a glass fob like these, would you know what you would initially do with them to transform them into a new and useful item?  Happily, I share what I did as I envisioned using these items to make another unique one-of-a-kind jewelry art piece.  What do you think of stage two?  I added wire and glass beads to the end section of the spoon.

with a few more additions, I was able to complete my necklace.  Using red and white hand-rolled clay beads, additional glass beads, a few formed glass heart beads and silver-tone findings and charms, the necklace is now a unique item.  Let me know what you think!

Whenever I am asked to create a custom piece, I love the challenge just as I enjoyed bringing this vision to life.  For more creative creations visit the website or drop me a line to let me know your specific jewelry needs. It’s always a thrill to create from recycled or found objects so I welcome your challenges.

Wired Up

3 Jun

Are you motivated to become creative today?

I am all “wired up’ as I experiment in the work place of Club Creative Studio.  As I try new techniques in wire-wrapping I have run into trials and tribulations.  This is what I love about the creative process…the learning process.  Success in art means to be brave to start from an idea, remain open-minded to continue the project and then hopefully become pleased in the final product.

This is what is at the heart of exploring creativity.  Today in this short post, I share with you the results of the recent stone, wire and crystal art pendants I am experimenting with.

>Something Similar

16 May

>

How do you stand apart from the crowd when you purchase items in the same market place as everyone else? Easy…the solution lies in choosing something that “Sets You Apart” and is never duplicated. The unique qualities of Club Creative Studio’s creations are ALWAYS one-of-a-kind.
Value knowing that no one else will ever have the same item!
Many do have similar tastes about a particular color, style, theme or design that we already have produced. In these cases, we strive to create something similar but never in duplicate. How do we keep track of that? Easy… after each creation, we document each piece with photos. Your creation is copyrighted upon completion. Exact duplication is not a issue because our beads and designs are completely original. With our hand-made items, there is no risk of anyone else making the same beads. They simply can not do the same just as we can not do the same after our beads are gone.

One reason why our beads are created in limited quantities, is that we do not want to allow ourselves to create items that have the same components, look, or feel. It is essential to remember that variety is key. It is the reason why we say that our Club Creative Studio has Art That Sets You Apart! It does not matter if we speak of one of our jewelry items, or something else that incorporates our beads…it is always unique, festive, and hand-crafted.

A few words about custom-made pieces: Isn’t it a pampered feeling to know that something was created specifically with you in mind? Basically, everything from Club Creative Studio is already created with you in mind but, if you have a specific request or need, we welcome new challenges. On most occasions, we can also make a change to an existing product. Sometimes, we are asked to make something similar to what may have been sold from the website. That is an easy request to fulfill. There are also times when we are asked to create something “new” from something that is “old”. We are often given broken jewelry and asked to use the components in a new creation. And, we have taken family heirlooms and created several different items from the single original item. All situations lend variety to our day and we love taking our service to the next step. It is all part of the experience of creating and sharing what we create. And it is why we always like to say: “Thank you for wearing and sharing our art”.
